Choose Your Social Media Goals Wisely

Now that you’ve decided to use social media to your advantage and to promote your non-profit online, you may be wondering where to begin. Non-profits that are unfamiliar with social media and this avenue of online marketing can find the process a bit overwhelming. The first step in using social media to market your non-profit is to set goals.

Goals

Your goals should be both short and long-term. Short-term goals are the stepping stones to achieving your long-term goals. With that being said, your goals should be realistic and achievable. In the beginning, set your long-term goals for the year. If your long-term goal is to get 10,000 followers, then a short-term goal should be to begin a blog and so on.

For example, when establishing a blog, all employees should be encouraged to submit blog posts. After your initial blog gets going, each department will be required to submit posts pertaining to their services on a daily or weekly basis. Why is this an effective social marketing technique? Your non-profit will be providing a variety of beneficial information that appeals to a broad audience. Your non-profit will gain a sufficient number of followers and new supporters along the way.

Also try:

* Create a social media policy: All employees should be on board and encouraged to participate.

* Platform selection: To get all employees on board and motivated to participate in your social media   marketing venture, encourage them to make suggestions and as a team select which platforms to use.

* Determine dates: Choose specific dates to have your social media profiles and pages up and running and stick   to them.

* By the numbers: How many followers, “likes”, and network members do you wish to establish. Keep these   numbers realistic and set dates for when you want to reach these numbers. Devise a plan of action on how to   achieve these numbers.

* Conversions: What do you want from your followers? How are you going to convert them from followers to   supporters? What you want from your followers is a long-term goal. Converting them and how you go about   doing it is a short-term goal.
